WHAT WILL YOU CHOOSE?

“All people are like grass, and all their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field. The grass withers and the flowers fall because the breath of the Lord blows on them. Surely the people are grass. The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.” Isaiah 40:6a-8

What do we hold onto? What are the things that hold our attention, our time, our money? Are they the things of this world or are they the things of God? The important answer should be the latter. The Word of God says we are not to live for this life only, but for the one to come. Have we invested everything for the here and now or have we stored up treasures in heaven for our eternal life? Jesus says “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matt. 6:19-21). Jesus points us to the best way to live. Live as if this is not our home. We need to concentrate on where we will spend eternity!

“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” (Eccles. 3:11). God has created mankind for Himself and wants to spend eternity with us. But He has also given us a free will to choose Him and an eternity with Him. We have to want it! “This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you, life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.” (Deut. 30:9). It is up to us to determine where we will spend eternity. If we hold on tightly to the things of this world and don’t choose to believe in Jesus, we will spend eternity without Him. If we choose Jesus, we will spend eternity with Him! As the old hymn says, “Turn your eyes upon Jesus and…the things of life will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.” (© Helen Lemmel). So, “choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve….” (Joshua 24:15) Choose Jesus, choose LIFE!
