"As the deer pants for the waterbrooks, so my soul longs for You." Psalm 42
Do you see yourself longing for some kind of peace and rest? Are you worn out by life's ups and downs? Do you feel frustrated by the uncertainty that seems to run our lives? God sees and He invites us to rest in Him. "Come apart into a desert place and rest awhile." (Mark 6:31). The word rest here has the connotation of "repose, refresh, or to take ease." God is asking us to look to Him for our rest. "Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him." (Psalm 37:7).
In Psalm 63, David says of the Lord, "My soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water. " God is our source of life. We need His life to give life to our spirits and souls just like our bodies need water to survive. Without His life-giving Spirit we would die. We need to go each day to the well of life-giving water, which is Jesus, and drink deeply. We will be refreshed and will receive water for our souls. "To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life." Rev. 21:6.
Are you thirsty and need some rest? God is waiting for you.
