“The next day, the great crowd that had come for the Feast heard that Jesus was on His way to Jerusalem. They took palm branches and went out to meet Him, shouting, ‘Hosanna!’ ‘Blessed is He Who comes in the Name of the Lord!’ ‘Blessed is the King of Israel!’ John 12:12-13

“When He came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen: ‘Blessed is the King Who comes in the Name of the Lord!’ ‘Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!’

Luke 19:37-38

HOSANNA! It is a Hebrew expression meaning “SAVE,” which became an exclamation of praise. JESUS means “God saves.” The people were acknowledging that Jesus was the One Who could and would save them. “Blessed is the King of Israel.” The people were acknowledging Jesus’ lordship over them by stating that He was the King of Israel. They were blessing Him with their words and actions. They “spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields.” (Mark 11:8). What a celebration! The people were honoring Jesus as their Savior and King. We should be blessing His Name, singing praise to Him and in our hearts be strewing palm branches under His feet. We need to exalt Him to the highest place in our lives. We need to give Him access to every part of our lives as King over our hearts and minds. “Hosanna,” should be the cry of our hearts and “Blessed,” should be the words on our lips as we praise and honor our dear Savior, Jesus. Let’s not be like the crowds who praised and honored Him one day and called for His death another. Let’s be steadfast in our praise and honor of Jesus as the King of our lives.

“Blessed be the Lord, my strong tower and might.

Blessed be the Lord, my guide and my light.

Blessed be the Lord Who ever draws near.

Blessed be the Lord Who is ever dear.

Be Thou my God, O Savior mine. Be Thou my God, O One divine.

Be Thou my God Who leads me on. Be Thou my God, the victory be won.”
